What's a Blog?

A blog is a website where entries are made in journal style. blogs often provide commentary or news on a particular subject, such as food, politics, local news or personal online diaries. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of most blogs.

What's a Social Network?

A social network is your own community where you send out messages inviting others to visit the site. New members repeat the process, growing the total number of members and links in the network.

3 EASY STEPS TO GET STARTED

Step One: Create Your Own Page

Do you have some genuine knowledge to share? Put it out there for everyone else — and it couldn't be easier to do. To create a new page, simply click on the "Add a new page" link near the top of any existing page.

First, confirm the location where your new page will appear. Your new page will automatically become a sub page of the page that you were viewing when you clicked on the "Add a new page" link.

If you want your page to appear somewhere else on the site, click on the "Change Location" button and the "Select a Location" dialog box will appear. Here you can view all the pages currently on the site. To make your new page a sub page of an existing page, click on that page and then click on the "Select Location" button.

Once you've chosen a location for your new page (or decided to leave it in the automatically chosen location), type in a name for your page. Keep it short, as this will appear in the site's navigation.

You may choose to assign keyword tags so your page will be easier for other site visitors. Enter as many relevant tags as you like, separating each one with a comma.

You may choose a preformatted template to use as the starting point for your new page. Select the template that best fits the page you want to create. When you click on the template name, you will see the template fill in your previously blank page. If you prefer to start from a clean canvas, select Blank Page (default).

Step 2: Invite Your Friends

Once you have your page up and running, start inviting your friends to join in on the fun. This site is all about sharing good information, so you're invited to let others know about what you find here. To email any page, click on the "Email this page" link in the upper right corner of every page. The "Send to a Friend" dialog box will appear. Fill out the information in the dialog box, include an optional message to your friend, and click on the "Email Link" button to send a link to the page you wish to share. You can rest assured that your email and your friend's email will be used only to send this page—never for marketing.

Step 3: Comment on Other Pages

The great thing about this site is that everyone with something to say can add their comments. To add a comment, click on the "Post a New Comment" button at the bottom of any page. When you're done writing your comment, click on the "Post Comment" button.

Site Moderation

This site is a wiki, meaning everyone can edit the content of the pages. Though the site moderator can edit pages, remove content, restore pages that have been vandalized and ban users that abuse the site, everyone can correct or edit page content.

MyVermilion is all about sharing your thoughts, ideas and identities. Unless your message is obsessively offensive, it will not be altered by the moderator. Pages and comments that contain profanity, pornography and racist messages are prohibited. Minors should not post to this site without their parents approval and supervision. Safety Tips

Please remember that what you post publicly could embarrass you or expose you to danger. Here are some common sense guidelines that you should follow:

  • Don't forget that your profile and page(s) are public spaces. Don't post anything you wouldn't want the world to know (e.g., your phone number, address, IM screens name, or specific whereabouts). Avoid posting anything that would make it easy for a stranger to find you, such as where you hang out every day.
  • People aren't always who they say they are. It's fun to connect with new people, but avoid meeting people in person whom you do not fully know. If you must meet someone, do it in a public place and bring a friend or trusted adult.
  • Harassment, hate speech and inappropriate content should be reported. If you feel someone's behavior is inappropriate, react. Report abuse immediately.
  • Don't post anything that would embarrass you later. Think twice before posting a photo or info you wouldn't want a friend or boss to see!
  • Don't mislead people into thinking that you're older or younger. If you are under 13 and pretend to be older, you will be banned. If you are over 18 and pretend to be a teenager to contact underage users, you will be banned.
  • Don’t get hooked by a phishing scam. Phishing is a method used by fraudsters to try to get your personal information, such as your username and password, by pretending to be a site you trust.
